The Beth Chatto Gardens - by 'Mum'

We’ve been very busy bees here at The Courtyard Rooms!  Unfortunately, this means little time to dedicate to our blog.  And so I – cheekily – asked my Mum to write a little something instead!  Mums are the best. :)

"Having a daughter who lives in Brightlingsea is a wonderful excuse to get away from the hustle and bustle of London life.  Our normal visits involve a leisurely stroll along the picturesque sea front, and usually a delicious meal at the Marina.  On a sunny day, if you sit outside, it’s reminiscent of the South of France.

On this particular visit, we took time to visit the Beth Chatto Gardens, which are only 10 minutes away in the car.  What a wonderful way to spend a lazy afternoon.  These famous gardens are beautiful – not too big, but very unique and varied. The entrance fee is good value at only £6.95 for an adult (£4.00 in winter) and kids go free.

Anyone who likes gardening will find plenty of inspiration here.  The planting schemes are particularly interesting.  Lots of the unusual plants you see are also for sale in the nursery at very reasonable prices.  For those who are not so green fingered, just stroll around and take in the wonderful displays of flowers, shrubs and trees in this peaceful setting.  I can recommend the café for a nice selection of refreshments, and the little shop where, among other items, you can find seeds from the gardens .

On returning to Brightlingsea we put our feet up for a while with a ‘nice cup of tea’ in our room.  I’m certainly bias, but Darius and Emily have done a wonderful job of redecorating the rooms in a romantic nautical style.  A lovely reminder of this idyllic location even when you’re inside.

What a great relaxing day and what a lovely stay at the The Courtyard Rooms.  I can recommend this to anyone who wants to unwind and get away from it all for a while.

Thanks Mum!
